Step Competition

I went to this stepping competition at North High School with my mom a few weeks ago.  Step is a form of dance that is a mix of foot steps, hand claps, and spoken word.  I was so impressed.  The groups were so in sync and musical.  I was in complete awe of the performers.  I obviously had to take some pictures.  Heres a few of my favorites.

This was my favorite part of the whole show. This little girl comes out for just a second to belt out an amazing verse of "Amazing Grace".  I swear it brought a tear to my eye.

This was definitely my most favorite group that performed.  They topped talent with adorable.

 Absolutely loved them.

Missing the Mother City

So, I regretably started reading my friend Mike's blog about his semester-long study abroad trip to Botswana.  He's going to braais, living on "African time", and enjoying the amazing people and experiences Africa offers.  So much of what he has experienced in the few weeks he has been there hits home for me and what I experienced while in Cape Town.  He gets to go to Jo-berg, which I am so jealous of.  If it wasn't a 12 hour car ride from Cape Town I totally would have gone there.  Three weeks goes by quicker then one might think.  Anyways, I had to go through my photos again and remember my time in the Mother City.  I miss it so much.

I miss MaAfrika so much, and especially my little babes.

Miss Delft

Miss Table Mountain, I definitely didn't take enough pictures of the rock.

Miss Nashema always doing something

Uhg, nuff said

And last, but not least, Hunters.  If anyone wants to know the most amazing 21st birthday present.  It would be a case of these :)

Dias Beach, South Africa

By far, one of the most beautiful places I have ever witnessed with my own eyes.

MaTi

MaAfrika is one of the things I will miss most about South Africa.  Tomorrow is our last day with them, so this is my little tribute to the time we've had with them.

South Africa

I've been in South Africa for over two weeks now.  It has been an extremely unique and fascinating experience so far.  I feel lucky to be able to call this a study abroad trip, and receive college credit for it.  I have learned so much about the apartheid and how that shaped the South African culture.  How they have come back from that is an amazing thing to learn about.  South Africa ended apartheid only about 16 years ago.  Being here, I have learned that they have a long way to go financially, and a lot of work to do in the education system, but they have come extremely far in forgiveness, spirit, and hope.  To describe my experience in words would be impossible, but I can show some of my photos that can show a fraction of what I have done and encountered.

No big deal, just the view from my street outside my house.

Some beautiful music on the train.  All of the art and music everywhere I go has been one of my favorite things about South Africa.  Beauty is EVERYWHERE.

We saw this crazy parade in downtown Cape Town.

Muizenberg Beach

Getting some major weeding done at MaAfrika, the place where we are doing our service learning.  It has been the best part of this trip so far.

Like I said, beauty if everywhere.  These girls hang out at MaAfrika everyday and dance with us.  They are so talented.

Once again, this has been amazing so far.  I don't want to leave this amazing country.
